HEAD OVER HEELS: High School Edition (Grades 6-12)
Wednesdays and Saturdays
HEAD OVER HEELS is the bold new musical comedy from the visionaries that rocked Broadway with Hedwig and the Angry Inch, Avenue Q and Spring Awakening. This laugh-out-loud love story is set to the music of the iconic 1980’s all-female rock band The Go-Go’s, including the hit songs, “We Got the Beat,” “Our Lips Are Sealed,” “Vacation,” Belinda Carlisle’s “Heaven is a Place on Earth” and “Mad About You.”
A hilarious, exuberant celebration of love, HEAD OVER HEELS follows the escapades of a royal family on an outrageous journey to save their beloved kingdom from extinction—only to discover the key to their realm’s survival lies within each of their own hearts.Broadway Licensing’s author-approved High School Editions are carefully curated to be made suitable for teenage actors and family audiences. These versions soften offensive language and sexual content while maintaining the integrity of the show and preserving the authors’ intent. We are proud to work with our authors and create opportunities for student actors to engage with relevant material in an age-appropriate manner.
HITS Theatre performance classes are an opportunity for students to develop their acting, singing, and dancing skills through a traditional rehearsal process. Each production is supported by a professional director, choreographer, music director, stage manager, and designers. As an ensemble, the students each play an important role in telling the story for a live audience by learning music, choreography, and staging. Our creative team guides the students through character development, proper vocal technique, while strengthening dance skills, coordination, and social-emotional learning.

Auditions will occur during the first 2 rehearsals. All students will read lines from the script and learn a short vocal & dance combination to assess skill levels. Students are not expected to prepare anything for auditions, but some have found taking private voice and acting lessons helpful to boost confidence on audition days.
ATTENDANCE POLICY:Please notify the HITS Front Desk of any known conflicts with the rehearsal schedule prior to the first day of class. Any unexcused tardy or absence may result in reassignment of roles and/or removal from production numbers at the discretion of the production team. DANA LEWIS, CHOREOGRAPHERDana Lewis has been teaching and choreographing at HITS since 2008. Dana was the Resident Choreographer for Stages St. Louis for 15 years, where she choreographed over 40 productions. She was on the dance faculty for Webster University where she taught jazz and musical theater styles. Additionally, Dana has taught numerous master classes around the country. KEITH LALONDE, MUSIC DIRECTORKeith LaLonde brings over fifteen years of experience as a pianist and choir director, Bachelors and Masters degrees from Stephen F. Austin State University, and a contagious smile to HITS Theatre. This year marks Keith’s fifth summer with HITS! Currently, Keith serves as a private lesson accompanist for the musical theatre majors at Sam Houston State University. His favorite place to play is at St. Peter United, where he enjoys bringing a high energy blend of gospel, rock, and elevation style worship to a diverse congregation.
BASILIUS King of Arcadia. A good ol' boy. A hothead, but not a despot. Blindly thinks Arcadia is doing great under his masculine rule, which will be sorely tested during the course of the show.
GYNECIA Queen of Arcadia. Wise, beautiful. Like any longstanding spouse, knows how to get her way with her husband when push comes to shove.
PAMELA Basilius and Gynecia's older daughter. Confident and obsessed with her appearance. Known to be the most beautiful bachelorette throughout Arcadia.
PHILOCLEA Basilius and Gynecia's younger daughter. Shy and a "good girl", she yearns to follow her heart rather than obey her father's orders.
DAMETAS The King’s viceroy; father to Mopsa.
MOPSA Handmaiden to Pamela. Warm, skeptical. Growing up without a mother has made her wise beyond her years about everyone and everything, which is why she is the (sometime) narrator to the show.
MUSIDORUS A young shepherd who courts after Philoclea.
PYTHIO The Oracle; powerful, mysterious. Demanding. Great sense of humor--can see through everyone--they are the Oracle of Delphi, after all.
ENSEMBLE Unique, charismatic individuals to inhabit the kingdom of Arcadia.
