COURSE DESCRIPTION: HITS Theatre Productions are a chance for students to practice their acting, singing and dancing skills through a traditional rehearsal process. Each production is supported by a professional director, choreographer, music director, stage manager, and designers. As an ensemble, the students each play an important role in telling a story for a live audience by learning music, choreography, and staging. Our professional creative team guides our students through character development, proper vocal technique and strengthening motor skills & coordination.
AUDITIONS/PLACEMENTS: Casting will occur during the first 2 rehearsals. All students will read lines from the script and learn a short vocal & dance combination to assess skill levels. Students are not expected to prepare anything for auditions, but some have found taking private voice and acting lessons helpful to boost confidence on audition days.
PREREQUISITE: All first-time HITS theater students must concurrently register for MUSICAL THEATER WORKSHOP or MUSICAL THEATER WORKSHOP JR. or have completed these classes in the previous semester. All registrations are subject to approval or removal by the Artistic Director; prerequisites may be waived based on a skill assessment by HITS Artistic staff.
Prerequisite: Musical Theatre Workshop
Students with all levels of experience are welcome at HITS, but to ensure you’re equipped with the skills you need to take the stage, we require all new or first-time theater students to take our Musical Theater Workshop or Musical Theater Workshop Junior. You have two options:• Register for your prerequisite class concurrently with a HITS Theatre Production
• Complete the required class this semester and register for an exciting HITS Theatre Production in the following semester.
If you are not new to HITS, the Musical Theatre Workshop is still recommended to strengthen skills in acting, dancing, and singing. It is just not required.
Heathers The Musical (High School Edition) is the darkly delicious story of Veronica Sawyer, a brainy, beautiful teenage misfit who hustles her way into the most powerful and ruthless clique at Westerberg High: the Heathers. But before she can get comfortable atop the high school food chain, Veronica falls in love with the dangerously handsome new kid J.D. When Heather Chandler, the Almighty, kicks her out of the group, Veronica decides to bite the bullet and kiss Heather’s aerobicized butt... but J.D. has another plan for that bullet.
Brought to you by the award-winning creative team of Kevin Murphy (Reefer Madness, Desperate Housewives), Laurence O’Keefe (Bat Boy, Legally Blonde) and director Andy Fickman (Reefer Madness, She’s the Man), Heathers The Musical (High School Edition) is a hilarious, heartfelt and homicidal new show based on the greatest teen comedy of all time.
